Elevating Skills with Premier Third-Party Workshops/ Training at HCF

Raising of Medium Urban Search & Rescue Team in Mardan

HCF successfully provided a comprehensive five-week Urban Search & Rescue Training program in Mardan in 2012 in collaboration with the One UN DRM Program. The course trained 50 participants from relevant institutions and local authorities, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills. The training covered key areas of disaster preparedness, search and rescue techniques, and safety protocols. the initiative not only strengthened local institutional capacity but also contributed to improved community resilience, ensuring a more structured and effective response to urban disasters and emergencies

Advanced Training Course on Disaster Resilience in Pakistan

During the last quarter of 2017, HCF was contracted by the Community Resilience Initiative to design and deliver a series of advanced training courses on disaster resilience across the four provincial headquarters of Pakistan. The assignment was successfully executed through the provision of comprehensive services, which included training design and facilitation, arrangement of suitable venues, preparation and printing of course materials, and complete logistical support. Boarding and lodging facilities were also efficiently managed to ensure the smooth participation of trainees.

Security Assessment in Mosul, Iraq

In collaboration with CRSM, our team conducted a comprehensive safety and security assessment in the conflict-affected city of Mosul, Iraq. The assessment aimed to support humanitarian organizations in designing and implementing their projects safely by identifying key risks, evaluating the operational environment, and developing actionable security protocols and contingency plans. The work focused on ensuring the safety of staff, beneficiaries, and organizational assets while enabling effective humanitarian access in one of the region’s most challenging contexts.

Research on the Impact of Economic Activities on Women in Deir Ezzor, Syria (USAID-Funded)

In partnership with CRSM, our team conducted an in-depth research study on how women’s engagement in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods is transforming household power dynamics and enhancing their socio-economic resilience in one of the most challenging operational contexts, Deir Ezzor, Syria. The project, funded by USAID, explored the broader socio-economic impacts of women’s economic participation, highlighting pathways for empowerment, gender equality, and sustainable community development in conflict-affected settings.

Training Courses for Communities on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management

HCF was contracted by Solutions for Development Support to conduct Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) training courses in selected villages of targeted districts of Sindh province in 2019. Based on the training toolkit, contemporary adult learning methodologies were applied, incorporating interactive lectures, multimedia presentations, audio-visual materials, group discussions, and practical hands-on exercises. These approaches, combined with the use of the provided material toolkit, ensured active participation, knowledge retention, and skill application by the community participants. Subsequently, a series of community training sessions were conducted in selected union councils, and around 1,000 community volunteers were equipped with practical knowledge and skills on disaster preparedness and response. The initiative not only enhanced individual capacities but also contributed to strengthening community-level resilience and fostering a culture of collective action in disaster risk management."

Baseline Study – “Moving from Charity Model to Rights-Based Work: Empowerment of Women with Disabilities” (2018)

Conducted a comprehensive baseline study for Handicap International (Humanity & Inclusion) under a UN Women–funded project implemented across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Islamabad. The assignment involved designing and executing a mixed-methods research framework to assess the socio-economic status, protection concerns, participation levels, and access to services for women with disabilities. The findings informed program strategies aimed at shifting from a charity-based approach to a rights-based empowerment model, strengthening advocacy, inclusion, and policy engagement.

Covid-19 Awareness Raising in Slum Areas in Karachi

Following extensive social mobilization activities, an awareness campaign was conducted in the identified slum areas of Karachi in 2021 to strengthen community-level resilience. The campaign was implemented by a team of professional social organizers through the engagement of HCF by Solutions for Development Support, ensuring effective outreach and participation. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials were carefully developed and designed in consultation with the Client, with specific attention to the literacy levels and needs of the target population. In addition to disseminating key awareness messages through multiple channels, the campaign also included the distribution of sanitization kits comprising hand sanitizers, face masks, and soap to promote improved hygiene practices. Community gatherings and awareness sessions were organized in compliance with COVID-19 protocols, with strict adherence to social distancing measures. The campaign not only enhanced knowledge and awareness but also encouraged practical adoption of preventive behaviors within these marginalized communities."
